What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is often referred to as the "silent thief of sight" because it typically shows no symptoms until significant irreversible peripheral vision loss has occurred. It is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, usually due to increased pressure inside the eye. Early detection is crucial for preserving vision.​​​​​​ At Blinking Owl Eye Care, we provide the advanced testing required to adequately detect Glaucoma, even in it's early stages.

Are You at Risk for Glaucoma?

Glaucoma can affect anyone at any age, but certain factors increase your risk, including:

• Age 40 and older, though pediatric cases also can present

• Family history of glaucoma

• Diabetes or high blood pressure

• Severe nearsightedness or farsightedness

• History of eye injuries, especially amongst Boxers and Wrestler, MMA fighters.

How We Detect Glaucoma

Our doctors use cutting-edge retinal screening and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to detect glaucoma before vision loss begins. These tests help us:

• Measure eye pressure and assess optic nerve health

• Detect early signs of glaucoma-related damage

• Monitor changes over time for early treatment
• May need additional visits to detect and diagnose glaucoma and it's staging.
